CHANDIGARH: The UT police have taken an initiative to ensure that the accused in snatching and robbery cases regularly attend court dates, resultantly which the local court this year had fined two sureties and issued 38 notices to the sureties after the accused persons failed to appear in the court during hearings.

The UT police have taken an initiative to ensure that the accused in snatching and robbery cases regularly attend court dates, resultantly which the local court this year had fined two sureties and issued 38 notices to the sureties after the accused persons failed to appear in the court during hearings.

The police claimed that as a part of steps taken to control snatching and robbery incidents in the city, cops keep a record of the accused who don’t appear in court hearings.

As per the police, the local court on January 24 and April 23 this year fined two sureties of Rs 7,000 and Rs 25,000 after the accused failed to appear in the court hearings into two cases registered in 2016.

The police claimed that the courts have issued 38 notices to the sureties after the accused in different cases failed to appear in the court and 30 more notices to be issued to sureties are under consideration.

Moreover, the police have also arrested 32 proclaimed offenders and have got 48 non-bailable warrants issued this year.

Steps taken to check snatchings, robberies

The police claimed that as a part of steps taken to check snatching and robbery incidents in the city, cops keep a record of the accused who don’t appear in court hearings.
