Panchkula: The Government Post Graduate College, Sector 1, Panchkula, observed National Handloom Day on Friday on its campus.



Panchkula: The Government Post Graduate College, Sector 1, Panchkula, observed National Handloom Day on Friday on its campus. It was supported and conceptualised with the help of the Directorate of Field Publicity under the umbrella of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. Deputy Director, Directorate of Field Publicity, Anil Gaur, graced the occasion as the keynote speaker. Assistant Director Sapna was also present on the occasion. Principal Dr Archana Mishra chaired the programme. In her address, she urged the students as well as public to verse themselves with the traditions of handloom and invest their interest in it. Anil Gaur, Deputy Director, highlighted the suitability of handloom products for human body. He said that export of Rs 22 billion of handloom products was achieved in the last financial year. TNS

Remote Sensing Day celebrated 

A national workshop on 'Popularisation of Remote Sensing-Based Maps and Geospatial Information' was organised to celebrate National Remote Sensing Day at the PEC University of Technology on Friday. It was a joint initiative by ISRO and ISRS where more than 300 participants from various colleges and schools were present. Director SASE (DRDO) and scientists from the DRDO and other institutions were also present. Through video conferencing, Dr A Senthil Kumar (Director, IIRS) gave an overview of the research being conducted in the country in remote sensing as well as the scientists and engineers who were involved in the development of this field as pioneers. Dr Shailesh Nayak (President, ISRS) talked about the history of the society and the significance of remote sensing technology in the lives of ordinary Indians such as farmers and fishermen, who rely on these technologies to obtain their daily livelihood.TNS
