Two held for firing at P’kula showroom

PANCHKULA: The police today claimed to have arrested two persons in the firing incident at a showroom in Sector 20 here in which one person was killed while another suffered injuries on January 30 this year.

The police today claimed to have arrested two persons in the firing incident at a showroom in Sector 20 here in which one person was killed while another suffered injuries on January 30 this year.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Hemant Kansal, alias Lalla, a resident of Saini Vihar, Baltana, and Naveen, a resident of Munga Majra, Bahadurgar district, Jhajjar, who is presently living in Sector 25, Panchkula.

The suspects were produced in the court, which sent them to five-day police remand to recover looted cash and the weapons used in the crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Kamal Deep Goyal said the two suspects had entered the office of Property and Finance Company on the first floor of the showroom in Sector 20 here and opened fire on officials on January 30.

He said the suspects looted the cash and mobile phones before fleeing from the spot on a motorcycle. One person, identified as Deepak, suffered serious injuries in the incident. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula. Doctors referred him to the PGI in Chandigarh where he succumbed to his injuries.

Another person, Sunny, also suffered injuries after he jumped from the first floor of the building to save his life, he said.

According to the police, there were heated exchanges between the two groups over the distribution of money and one of the groups had fired on the other group. Deepak, who was seriously injured, fell unconscious and cards were lying scattered on the table as well as on the floor. Sunny had jumped from the first floor after breaking the glass of the window. He had fractures on his legs and arms, besides head injuries as he fell on the debris lying in front of the showroom. The attackers fled from the spot immediately after the incident.

A case under Sections 394, 395, 397 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act was registered against the suspects at the Sector 20 police station.
