Companies like Ola, Uber, Zomato and others will soon have to pay for “advertisements on their moving vehicles” as the UT Administration has notified the Chandigarh Advertisement Control (Amendment) Order, 2019.

For non-illuminated boards carried on vehicles solely for the purpose of advertisement for a space up to 50 sq ft, the advertiser will have to pay Rs 8,000 a month or Rs 80,000 annually. For illuminated advertisement boards carried on vehicles for space up to 50 sq ft, the charges will be Rs 16,000 a month or Rs 1.60 lakh a year.

It was way back in 2014 when the matter regarding vehicle ads was first taken up. The UT Administration had asked the MC to make a policy in this regard. The civic body had then replied that the Administration should first fix the rates.

The rates have been fixed now and the policy will be framed by the corporation. Later, it will be sent to the UT Administrator for the final approval.

“Not only vehicles, advertising the names of various firms on T-shirts will also come at a price,” said an MC official.

Besides, the new amendments will also allow the civic body to levy ad fee on each screen at a multiplex. There is also a provision of fine if any firm is not paying the fee.

The notification, which gives advertisement rights to the cash-starved corporation, will enable it to boost its revenue by about Rs 14 crore.

There is a two-fold increase in the rates of other advertisements. Annual charges for fixed illuminated sky signs and advertisement are Rs 2,000 for a space up to 2 sq ft, Rs 4,000 for over 2 sq ft and up to 5 sq ft, Rs 9,600 for over 5 sq ft-25 sq ft and Rs 12,000 for every additional 25 sq ft or less.

For advertisement or hoarding in wall or post in the form of non-illuminated sky signs, there will be annual charges of Rs 2,400 for a space up to 10 sq ft, Rs 4,800 for 10-25 sq ft and Rs 6,000 for every additional 25 sq ft and above.
