Underground bin lies defunct

CHANDIGARH:The underground bin, constructed two months ago at Shastri Market in Sector 22, Chandigarh, is lying defunct.

Chandigarh, January 20

The underground bin, constructed two months ago at Shastri Market in Sector 22, Chandigarh, is lying defunct.

The foundation stone for the project was laid in October in the presence of local councillor Ravi Kant Sharma. It was readied in November but has been awaiting inauguration.

The councillor said it was built by Lion Services as part of its corporate social responsibility programme and will be opened in a week. He said more such bins would be built in different markets of the city.  The bin has a capacity of one tonne and emptied with a a hydraulic system.

“On the one hand, the MC claims to provide a smart system for  waste management, on the other, the facility is lying defunct,” said Kulbir Singh, president of Shastri Market, Sector 22.  Company representatives said a connecting bin was to be set up but they did not get land from the MC due to which it could not be inauguarted.  — TNS
