70 adventure tourists leave for Nelong valley

MUSSOORIE: Uttarkashi District Magistrate Dipendar Chaudhry flagged off a adventure tourist trekking group of 70 persons to the famous Nelong valley from Uttarkashi during a World Tourism Day function today.

Uttarkashi District Magistrate Dipendar Chaudhry flagged off a adventure tourist trekking group of 70 persons to the famous Nelong valley from Uttarkashi during a World Tourism Day function today. The Nelong valley in the border region with China has not been fully accessible to tourists due to security reasons and the inner line permit clause is a hindrance in promoting tourism.

Chaudhry wished the trekkers very best on their adventure tour. He directed officials to provide all help required by tourists. He said suggestions by trekkers on their return would be incorporated in developing new tourist trekking routes being planned to promote the Nelong valley a tourist destination in the district. He stressed the need to repair various trekking routes in the district and promote Uttarkashi as a premiere trekking destination. He said the suggestion by the Uttarkashi Hotel Association of developing a trekking route to Kailash Mansarovar from Uttarkashi would be brought in the knowledge of the state government. He directed the officials to provide adequate security to the tourists.

He said ITBP and Army jawans had assured of providing food and shelter to the tourists on their way to Nelong. Fifteen students from Harsil Government college have also joined the trekking group along with a woman form Bengaluru and trekkers from Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Karnataka, Thaney, Nasik, Mahrashtra, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country.

ITBP second command officer DP Rawat, Uttarkashi SP Dadan Pal, Tilak Soni form Where Eagles Dare and Secretary Hotel Association Shailendar Matuda were present on the occasion. President of the Uttarkashi Hotel Association Ajay Puri coordinated the programme.
