CHANDIGARH: Setting a deterrent for repeat offenders, the court of Sessions Judge SK Aggarwal today sentenced a youth to 18 months imprisonment in a case of theft.

Setting a deterrent for repeat offenders, the court of Sessions Judge SK Aggarwal today sentenced a youth to 18 months imprisonment in a case of theft.

 

The court sentenced 28-year-old Shaane Alam, alias Aslam, a resident of Abheypur in Panchkula, to one and a half years in jail after convicting him under Sections 413 of the IPC (habitually dealing in stolen property) and 473 of the IPC (making or possessing counterfeit seal).

 

The case was registered on July 9, 2014, when the police had laid a barricade at the T point on the Sector 10/11 road. The accused was riding a bike when they were stopped by the police.

 

The number plate was found to be fake following which the accused was arrested. Meanwhile, police investigations revealed that the bike was stolen and belonged to the office of the Additional Director General, Punjab.

 

An FIR about the motorbike being stolen was also found to be registered.
