DM directed to talk to striking taxi operators

DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Harish Rawat today directed District Magistrate Ravinath Raman to talk to the strking Dehradun Taxi Union.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat today directed District Magistrate Ravinath Raman to talk to the strking Dehradun Taxi Union. He told the District Magistrate to visit the taxi union office at the railway station to sort out the matter.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Congress Senior Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana visited the taxi stand at the railway station to express solidarity with the striking taxi union members. Dhasmana said tourists and other people who alight at the railway station in Dehradeun were benefited from the taxi stand there. “Dehradun being the rail head in the region, pilgrims and others take taxis to travel to other parts of the state. They can easily hire taxis at the taxi stand,” he added.

He said he had written to Chief Minister Harish Rawat and the Union Railway Ministry on the issue.

The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (Panwar) has also extended support to the taxi union’s strike. UKD spokesman Manmohan Lakhera said party workers would visit the Dehradun Taxi Union office to express solidarity. Lakhera said railway passengers were benefited due to the taxi stand in the close proximity of the railway station.
