Girls show the way, yet again

PANCHKULA: Taking a lead yet again in the CBSE Class XII results declared today, girls have fared better as compared to boys in the tricity.

Taking a lead yet again in the CBSE Class XII results declared today, girls have fared better as compared to boys in the tricity.

The pass percentage of girls in the tricity (Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali) is 82.96 while that of boys is 72.43.

A total of 21,341 students from the tricity appeared for the exams, of whom 9,169 were girls and 12,172 boys. The overall pass percentage was 76.96.

Of the 9,169 girls, 7,607 passed while of the 12,172 boys, 8,816 cleared the exam.

Even if we go by the toppers in the UT, Panchkula and Mohali, three of the four toppers (four streams) are girls.

According to the details given by the CBSE office, from the UT, a total of 18,151 students took the exams of whom 13,814 passed. The total number of boys was 10,411 while 7,740 were girls. The pass percentage of the UT this year was 76.10. Last year, the pass percentage was 78.68 when 17,715 students had appeared for the exams.

Similarly, in Mohali, a total of 1,949 students appeared for the exams of whom 1,506 passed. As many as 781 girls of the 995 registered for the exams passed. Similarly, 725 boys of the 1,054 registered for the exams passed. The pass percentage of Mohali was 77.27. Last year, the pass percentage was 80.49 when 1,681 students had appeared for the exams.

The least number of students who took the Class XII exams from the tricity were from Panchkula (even less than last year). A total of 1,241 appeared for the exams of whom 1,103 passed. The pass percentage this year was 88.87. Last year, the pass percentage was 88.13 when 1,323 students had appeared for the exams.
