HPCA spokesperson, 5 others acquitted

DHARAMSALA: District and Sessions Judge Kangra DK Sharma yesterday acquitted Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) spokesperson Sanjay Sharma and five others in a case of causing mischief and unlawful assembly.



Dharamsala, July 6

District and Sessions Judge Kangra DK Sharma yesterday acquitted Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) spokesperson Sanjay Sharma and five others in a case of causing mischief and unlawful assembly.

In 2005, the six HPCA officials were accused of tampering the pitch of Dharamsala Cricket Stadium which led to the cancellation of match.

Besides, Sanjay Sharma, those acquitted in the case were Yudhister Katoch, current HPCA vice- president; Gautam Thakur, Aseem Aggarwal, Vipin Mehra and Ashok Kumar.

Earlier, in October 2011 the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate had sentenced them to six-month jail and imposed a fine of Rs 1500. The accused appealed against the lower court order in November 2011 and were out on bail. — TNS
