Chandigarh, January 29

A day after the issue of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) charging the AC fares in midi buses that are not equipped with the heating system was highlighted in these columns, the UT Transport Department has decided not to charge the AC fares from those traveling by these buses during the winter.

The Secretary, Transport, UT, Bhawana Garg, passed the orders to this effect today.

It had been pointed out that while the CTU has been charging the AC fares for the recently introduced midi buses, these did not have the heating system and only provided air conditioning.

Even in the low-floor long buses, the heating system is not being regularly operated during the winter. Only five months ago, the CTU had increased the fares by 40 per cent.

Against the existing AC fares of Rs 15 (up to 3 km), Rs 20 (up to 10 km) and Rs 25 (above 10 km), the undertaking will now charge the rates applicable for non-AC buses.
