Ambala, April 6

To keep a check on overloaded vehicles, the state government will adopt Gujarat pattern and vehicles will be weighed on entry points of the state.

Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar said: “To deal with the problem of overloaded vehicles, the state government has decided to adopt Gujarat pattern under which loaded vehicles will be weighed while entering the state and appropriate action will be taken if found overloaded. To make the process of getting heavy vehicle licence easy, driving schools are being established in each district of the state.”

Talking to mediapersons at the PWD rest house, Panwar said: “To provide safer journey to college and university girls, the state government has started plying 44 special buses. Besides, a proposal of plying 32 AC buses has also been approved. Only girl students will be allowed to travel in these buses and in case there are lesser students on some routes, only women will be allowed to travel in those buses.”

“Currently there are 4,215 buses in the fleet of the Haryana Roadways and to provide better facilities to passengers, 600 new buses will be added,” he said.

He said: “The approval of the construction of a new bus stand in Ambala city has been given and it will be constructed on the site of the old bus stand.”

The minister was here in the Ambala Cantonment to invite people for a state-level function to be organised on April 14 on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar in Yamunanagar.

While addressing the gathering, Panwar said, “The BJP is the first such government which is celebrating the birth anniversaries of BR Ambedkar, Kabir and Guru Ravidas on state level. On this occasion, the Chief Minister is likely to make announcements for the welfare of the Dalits and deprived communities.”

“The CM will be requested to start awards after the names of the gurus and saints of the Dalit community. Besides, the demand of ending contractual system of safai karamcharis in the MCs and other institutions will also be raised,” he said.
