Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Republic Day urged the youth to uproot evils in society for social equality.

He paid tributes to freedom fighters and martyrs after unfurling the Tricolour here on Monday. The Governor took the salute of a parade and viewed tableaux of several departments.

“We became a republic after the sacrifice by freedom fighters, who laid down their lives for the country’s independence,” Solanki said.

“India is the largest democracy in the world, but we are yet to overcome several challenges such as terrorism, regionalism, communalism, corruption, crimes against women and materialism. We can overcome these hurdles by developing a good character,” he said.

The Governor appreciated state government’s initiatives such as CM Window and e-Disha Kendras.

On the declining gender ratio, the Governor appealed to people to take ahead the Centre’s initiative of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” programme. Solanki felicitated freedom fighters and widows of freedom fighters. He honoured officials and employees for their work.

Students presented cultural programme. For them, the Governor announced Rs2.51 lakh for sweets.
