The J&K Police on Sunday claimed to have identified administrators of Facebook pages and WhatsApp groups for spreading a rumour that forces had set ablaze handcarts at a Srinagar locality four days ago.

The police said a rumour was circulated on the social media regarding forces setting ablaze handcarts in the Anchar area of Soura on July 12. A case was registered at Soura police station and investigation was initiated to trace the rumour-mongers.

“During the course of investigation, a few Facebook pages, WhatsApp groups and individuals using the social media who circulated the rumour were identified against whom legal action will be initiated,” a police spokesman said.

The police said on July 12, miscreants set ablaze a few carts and also damaged some tree guards and road dividers.
