Srinagar, November 14

At least five civilians, including a woman, were wounded in Pakistan firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s frontier district on Thursday, the police said.

They said Pakistan violated ceasefire in the Taad area of Tangdhar this morning and resorted to unprovoked firing and heavy shelling. The injured were taken to a hospital. However, one was shifted to a Srinagar hospital for treatment. Two houses were completely damaged during the shelling.

The officials said the Indian Army too retaliated and an exchange of fire continued for nearly two hours.

A spate in incidents of cross-border shelling along the LoC in Tangdhar sector in the recent past has left two soldiers and nearly a dozen civilians injured.

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered from the city outskirts this morning, the officials said.

The IED fitted in a pressure cooker was noticed by security forces near Entrepreneur Development Institute (EDI) in Pampore along the old Srinagar-Jammu highway when they were sanitising the area.

“It was a 2-kg IED fitted in a pressure cooker which was later detonated,” CRPF spokesman Pankaj Singh said.
