Jammu, August 20

A civil society group of Jammu has resolved to propose to the Central government the measures “to safeguard the identity and interests of Dogras” and demand for separate statehood to Jammu.

The group has also decided to propose the Centre to hold Assembly elections only after conducting fresh delimitation, rotation of reserved seats, SC and ST voter rights of Valmikis and West Pakistan refugees.

There was a unique synergised configuration of Jammu leaders who jointly considered the sufferings of the Jammu region for the past seven decades peacefully and deliberated on checks and measures for retaining the identity of Dogras of all communities and development of this region that faced discrimination on all fronts and aspired to be one with the nation,” Gulchain Singh Charak, convener All Jammu Civil Society Forum (AJCSF) and president Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS), said after the meeting of the group.

“They resolved to propose to the government, measures to safeguard the identity and interests of Dogras under provisions like Articles 371/372 that are protecting identity of Himachal Pradesh and the Eastern states,” Charak claimed. —TNS
