Anantnag, January 31

Eight persons, including two CRPF personnel and three women, were injured in a grenade blast in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday.

The injured paramilitary men belong to the 96 Battalion of the CRPF while the six injured civilians are residents of Anantnag town.

The injured were rushed to the nearby District Hospital. “They had splinter injuries. All of them have been treated and are completely out of danger,” a doctor at the hospital said.

The grenade was hurled by militants around 11.45 am at the Sherbagh police post in the old town area of Anantnag.

“The grenade landed on the road outside the police post and exploded there, leaving eight persons injured. The explosion created panic in the area and people ran for cover,” a senior police officer said.

The area, following the explosion, was cordoned off by security forces and efforts were made to try and nab the attackers but they managed to flee.

Thursday’s grenade attack was the second in as many days. On Wednesday, a grenade hurled at a police station in Damhal Hanjipora area of Kulgam had missed the target and left three civilians injured.
