The district Civil and Police administration on Tuesday decided to constitute ‘Nasha Roko Nigran’ Committees for turning the Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) campaign into a mass movement thereby making Jalandhar a completely drug-free district.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting held here at the District Administrative Complex, on Monday morning.

Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said the time had come when a final push must be given for wiping out the curse of drugs from the district. They said these committees would be constituted at village and ward level to motivate people against drugs. Likewise, it was also decided that cluster coordinators would also be appointed in urban and rural areas to ensure that this movement was carried out in a well-planned manner to eradicate the menace of drugs from the district.

Chairing a meeting of the officers of Civil and Police administration they said due to strenuous efforts of the State government, the supply line of drugs had already been cut and the DAPOs would have to focus on snapping the demand of drugs.

They said DAPOs would act as a catalyst in transforming the district completely into a drug-free and healthy district. They said the grave problem of drugs could only be overcome with the active support of the general public.
