Missing for over fortnight, 17-year-old girl’s body found

The body of a 17-year-old girl, who had been missing from her house since March 3, was found in a well at Umarpura village in Bilga here today.

The girl was murdered by her friend Fuman Singh.

The Kapurthala police have arrested Raj Kumar (26), brother of Fuman, and booked four others on the murder charge.

The Kapurthala police said as per the statement of Raj Kumar, his brother Fuman (25) murdered the girl on the intervening night of March 2 and 3 following which he dumped her body in a well at Bilga.

The police have booked Fuman, his mother Ranjit Kaur, sister-in-law and the deceased’s female friend on the basis of a complaint made by the girl’s parents at the Sultanpur Lodhi police station on Sunday.

The police said while Fuman also consumed some poisonous substance after killing the girl, he is at present in a critical condition and is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Jalandhar.

While the girl hails from Sultanpur Lodhi, she was taking coaching at an IELTS centre in the town.

Fuman is from Kabilpura village near Sultanpur Lodhi.

The police have registered an FIR under Sections 363, 302, 366-A, 120-B and 201 of the IPC.

Sultanpur Lodhi SHO Bikramjit Singh said, “Rajkumar has said Fuman told him that he killed the girl on the intervening night of March 2 and 3. The girl’s parents came to know on March 3 morning that she was missing from her home. Doctors have told us that Fuman is unconscious and unfit to be arrested now. His mother and the girl’s friend are currently absconding but the police are on a lookout for them. Further details will be out after Fuman’s recovery.”
