Monsoon brings diseases, including cold and flu, typhoid, cholera and skin infections. There is a spurt in the number of patients suffering from seasonal infections at hospitals.

Dr Anshuman Verma, a paediatrician and neonatologist, said: “ Water-borne diseases increase during the rainy season due to warm and humid conditions, in which harmful pathogen multiply fast, causing diseases, including stomach infection, jaundice and diarrhoea.”

“These diseases can be prevented by drinking boiled or chlorinated water. Stagnant water can lead to spread of malaria, dengue and other vector-borne diseases. One should ensure proper ventilation in the rooms and avoid consuming cut fruits and open food from street vendors,” added Dr Verma.

Dr Meenakshi Sood, a dermatologist said: “Fungal infection is common in humid weather, due to sweating. So it is important to have shower twice a day. People should avoid wearing tight clothes and prefer wearing single layer cotton clothes.”

“Heavy makeup, facial and waxing should be avoided. To prevent hair fall, skip oiling and wash hair more frequently (three times a week). One should avoid wearing shoes for a long time and they must be laid in sunshine. One must save himself from direct sunlight and apply sunscreen,” she added.
