Launching a frontal attack on political parties opposing the government’s demonetisation move, BJP president Amit Shah on Friday questioned them if they were with the law-abiding people who pay tax or with those who do not.

He said the way BJP’s political opponents are reacting to the government’s decision it will benefit the party in the upcoming elections.

“Why are the Congress, SP, BSP and AAP opposing the decision which has rattled those with blackmoney?’’ he said.

“Poor will not suffer, but some political parties have become poor,” he added.

Countering allegations that the decision was taken in view of the upcoming UP Assembly elections, Shah shot back saying when and in which year do elections not take place in some part of the country.

Taking a dig at Mayawati for calling the decision an economic emergency, Shah said it was economic emergency for the BSP.

“I appeal to all political parties to understand the real motive behind this historic decision. They should not criticise it by hiding themselves behind poor people, who are in no way going to be affected by the move.

“If they do so then they are doing nothing but lending support to corrupt black-marketeers, hawala operators, terror outfits etc, as the decision is a frontal attack on these illegal and disruptive elements,” he said

“A decision to bring in change always brings with it teething troubles. People are cooperating, banks are doing commendable job, I appeal to media to help people,” Shah said.
