Former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) minister Gobind Singh Kanjhla's son Amandeep Kanjhla on Monday joined the Congress under the leadership of senior vice president of Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Kewal Singh Dhillon, who is trying for Sangrur ticket for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Welcoming Kanjhla into the party fold, Dhillon said, "His joining Congress would strengthen the party. The Congress is committed towards the development of state. The party would win all 13 seats in forthcoming parliamentary elections. More SAD leaders would join Congress in coming days."

Kanjhla had been in touch with Dhillon for the last some days.

"I have joined the party after seeing the welfare policies of Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh. People are fed up with the policies of BJP government and wanted to see the government of Congress at the centre,” Amandeep Kanjhla said.

When contacted, Sangrur district president of SAD, Iqbal Singh Jhunda said Kanjhla family had ended their ties with SAD in 2017.

“Presently, Kanjhla family has no connection with SAD,” he said.
