As water washed away 2,000 sand bags that had been stacked on the damaged portion of the Ferozepur feeder canal at RD 115 mark, the supply from Harike barrage had to be slashed to facilitate repair today. About 70-ft length of the sidewall had to be repaired, cement concrete mixture would now be used instead of bricks, officials said.

Rajasthan Irrigation Department Superintending Engineer Arun Sidana, Executive Engineer Pradeep Rustogi, Gang Canal project chairman Shameer Singh, Gang Canal Bachao Samiti convener Ranjit Singh Raju and Kisan Sangharsh Samiti spokesman Subhash Sehgal along with some progressive farmers from different segments of Sriganganagar reached the site to review the developments.

With receipts at the Khakha headworks of the Gang Canal nosediving to 400 cusecs on Friday evening, almost all subcanals went dry whereas water was urgently needed to irrigate cotton and guar fields.
