Kochhar hits 67, T-3rd in Chinese Taipei

India's Karandeep Kochhar birdied each of the 4-par-5s to open his campaign at the Yeangder TPC with a solid 5-under 67 that placed him tied-3rd after a rain-hit first round here on Thursday.

The 20-year-old from Chandigarh was among the five players who completed their rounds at 5-under.

Playing partners Wang Wei-hsuan and Lien Lu-sen of Chinese Taipei are on 6-under-par through 13 holes, while countryman Lee Chieh-po trails the duo by two shots after nine.

Long-hitting Karandeep started from the back nine and had three birdies against one bogey and on the back nine had two birdies, both on par-5s and then closed the day with a birdie on par-4 ninth. Among other Indians, who had finished play, Abhijit Chadha and S Chikkarangappa shot 2-under 70 each, while 2017 winner Ajeetesh Sandhu started with 1-under 71, as did Aman Raj. Jeev Milkha Singh shot even-par-72. 

Other Indians who are yet to complete their rounds are Shiv Kapur, Chiragh Kumar, Khalin Joshi, Viraj Madappa and Aadil Bedi. — PTI

 Tokyo: Tokyo 2020 Olympics chiefs have already rolled out everything from misting stations to flowerbeds to beat the heat at next year's games, and now they want to let it snow. Organisers confirmed Thursday that they plan to test the use of artificial snow at a canoe event later this month as they look for novel ways to keep spectators and athletes cool during Tokyo's steamy summer months. afp
