India and the Imperial Cabinet.

AN AP telegram states that His Excellency the Viceroy has nominated the Hon'ble Sir Satyendra Prasanna Sinha to attend the forthcoming session of the Imperial War Conference and Imperial War Cabinet, and that the latter has accepted the nomination. The announcement will be received with mixed feelings. Against Sir Prasanna personally there is nothing to say. He is undoubtedly one of the foremost Indians of his generation. As an old Congressman and ex-President of the Congress he must, moreover, be held to be in close touch with Congress views. The work that he did last year as member of the Indian deputation was also good, considering all the circumstances of the case. Our only objections to the arrangement are, first, that he is an official nominee and secondly, that, though not a bureaucrat, he is now an official.
