Chandigarh girls go down to Pondicherry

Chandigarh, February 28

After crushing Arunachal Pradesh in their previous match, Chandigarh girls suffered a seven-wicket loss against Pondicherry in the Women's U-19 One Day Trophy Plate Group match at Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, today.

Opting to bat, Chandigarh had a disastrous beginning, losing their top-five batters for just 34 runs.

Skipper Kashvee Gautam and Shivali then stitched a 104-run partnership for the sixth wicket to take the Chandigarh total to 138. The two were separated when Shivali was sent back by Tanishka Sen in the 46th over. She scored a painstaking 47 off 112 balls.

Kashvee remained not out on 59, while Jyotikumari added 5 runs to the total as Chandigarh finally made 159/6 in 50 overs.

Tanishka was the most successful bowler for Pondicherry, claiming 3/31 in her 9 overs.

Pondicherry, in reply, reached home in 42.5 overs, courtesy a 104-run second wicket partnership between Yuvashri (73) and Roshini (45).

Kashvee-led side will now face Meghalaya on March 3. — TNS
