Border Security Force (BSF) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) personnel on Sunday seized a thermos, filled with 1 kg of heroin, along with a Pakistani SIM card from near Jagdish border outpost under the jurisdiction of the BSF’s 29 Battalion here.
Sources said following a tip-off, a joint search operation was carried out by the BSF and the IB personnel in an area between barbed-wire fencing and zero line near during which the consignment was recovered, which had been buried in soil under a tree. The heroin is estimated to be around Rs 5 crore in the international market.
BSF officials said during the past year, around 280 kg of heroin, besides 2.14 kg of opium, was recovered, the quantity being much more when compared to the previous year’s seizure.
Besides the contraband, the year saw seizure of 23 weapons with 694 rounds. The BSF also apprehended 69 Indians, five Bangladeshis and 30 Pakistani nationals in various operations from the area along the international border. In addition, seven Pakistani intruders were gunned down.
