Muktsar, January 28
A day after 23-year-old Akshay Kumar of Kaoni village died in a hit-and-run incident near Sangudhaun village on the Muktsar-Bathinda road, his kin today blocked Bathinda chowk on the outskirts of Muktsar city, demanding the arrest of a car driver.
Jaswant Singh, father of the deceased, said, “A car hit the motorcycle of my son, who died on the spot, while the boy riding pillion got injured. The car dragged the body for a few metres. Thereafter, the car’s tyre got punctured but the driver still kept moving the vehicle. We demand action against the driver, but cops are not registering an FIR against him.”
Pal Singh, sarpanch of Kaoni village, said, “The deceased was pursuing LLB. His father is a daily wager. Though cops know name of the accused, they have not acted in this matter.”
Baljinder Singh, a relative of the deceased, said, “We will not allow the post-mortem examination till the accused is arrested.”
The police said a case under Section 304-A had been registered against an unidentified driver who was arrested today. “If the family is unsatisfied, it can name the individual in a complaint. We will act against the person concerned,” said a police officer.
