The Municipal Corporation, Amritsar, organised an event to honour hotels, hospitals, schools and market associations for keeping their premises clean here today. Earlier, officials of the health wing of the civic body had conducted a survey to assess cleanliness at these institutions.

On the basis of report prepared by chief sanitary inspectors and sanitary inspectors, the MC gave rankings to these institutions. The institutions which score 5 stars during the survey were awarded.

Appreciation certificates were distributed among the winners by Joint Commissioner Saurab Arora and other senior officials. Health Officer Dr Raju Chohan encouraged the traders and residents to devote their time to make the city clean.

MC officials also conducted a joint inspection of the railway station. The Swachh Survekshan team is expected to visit the city in the upcoming days. The MC officials are on their toes to keep the city clean.

The MC has issued instructions to shopkeepers to install dustbins outside their shops. Fine will be imposed on violating the orders.

Dr Raju Chowan said, “Our sweepers clean the roads early in the morning. Shopkeepers open their shops around 10 am. After cleaning, shopkeepers throw the garbage on the road. We have decided to curb the practice. They have to put the garbage in the bins. We will issue the challans to the violators.”
