National Women Commission chairperson Rekha Sharma on Tuesday directed the police hold a separate probe into two cases after listening to the rape victim and the other victim, a married woman, who had allegedly lost her hand and leg during treatment.

Rekha Sharma said she had been asked to get a probe conducted into the two cases. She said after hearing the cases, she had told the district police officials to constitute a probe committee and investigate the cases.

In the case of married woman who had lost her leg and hand during treatment, Rekha said she had listened to the victim, Amandeep Kaur, and said her in-laws had tried to kill her. “I have told the police to listen to both parties and later a proper probe should be conducted,” she said.

It is pertinent to mention that both victims had met Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and told her that they were not getting justice. Then, Harsimrat Badal talked to the National Women Commission chairperson and told her to probe these incidents.

The first case is related to domestic violence that took place at a house in Mithari village. The in-laws have been accused of setting a woman on fire over the demand of dowry. Whether the victim’s hand and leg were deliberately cut by her in-laws or doctors had to amputate them is a matter of probe.

The second case is of rape of a minor girl, in which a close relative is an accused. The family has been running from pillar to post for the last few days. Later, Harsimrat Badal took up the matter with the NCW chairperson, who on Tuesday came to probe both these incidents.
