CHANDIGARH: Aryan Thakur defeated Prag Sheron 6-1 6-0 to enter the boys’ U-14 second round in the ongoing STA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here today.

Aryan Thakur defeated Prag Sheron 6-1 6-0 to enter the boys’ U-14 second round in the ongoing STA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here today. 

Sidharth Goel registered a comfortable 6-4 6-2 win over Shubh Negi, while Shivdev Walia rallied from a set down to overcame Gurjosh Singh 1-6 6-2 6-2. Avish Verma got the better of Rijul Bhatia 6-3 6-3. 

Pranay Mittal also made it to the second round after beating Aaryan Chhatwal 7-5 6-1. Chirag Malhotra edged past Divyanshu Uppal 6-4 6-1.

Thakur and Goel also won their respective U-16 first round matches. While Thakur beat Pranav Chopra 7-6(0) 6-4, Goel drubbed Prince Sheoran 6-1 6-0.   

Avish Verma also sealed a spot in the boys’ U-16 second round with a convincing 6-2 6-2 over Ayush Batta.

Ajay Singh overpowered Samarbir Sidhu 6-4 6-2, while Sarabjot Singh blanked Sourav Gulia 6-0 6-0. Dhananjay Singh beat Saksham Salaria 7-5 6-1.

Sukhpreet Jhoje overcame Mahismat Kumar in an intense three-setter to move into the second round.  

Jhoje lost the opening set 4-6 but came back to win the next two sets 6-2 6-4 to stay alive in the competition.

In the girls’ U-14 category, Prachi Batra confirmed a berth in the second round with a 6-0 6-2 over Ananya Dogra.

Radhika Vasudeva defeated Agrima Gandhi 6-1 6-0, while Ridhima Mehra dumped Khushi Dewan 6-0 6-0. Pawandeep Kaur thumped Anvita Aggarwal 6-1 6-0.
