Chandigarh, November 24

The social media cell of the Chandigarh Congress took out a candle light march at the Sector 17 Plaza against a recent gang rape case, involving three persons, including an auto driver. The protesters raised slogans against BJP MP Kirron Kher, Mayor Asha Kumari Jaswal and the UT Administration.

Former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said, “The BJP’s save the girl child campaign is limited to slogans only. The most important thing today is to protect the women, only then they can be educated.”

City Congress chief Pardeep Chhabra said the UT Administration had failed to provide security to the women on every front. “MP Kirron Kher and Mayor Asha Kumari Jaswal should tender their resignations. Thousands of auto-rickshaws with temporary numbers are playing in Chandigarh without permission. They can enter Panchkula and Mohali without any fear. The State Transport Authority and the traffic police have closed their eyes and are allowing them to operate without any fear. Moreover, if street lights and CCTV cameras work properly, then these type of incidents can be prevented,” Chhabra said. — TNS
