English: Declare re-evaluation result by June 29, says HC

CHANDIGARH: A vacation Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday directed the Central Board of Secondary Education to declare the re-evaluation result of the Class XII English paper by June 29.

A vacation Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday directed the Central Board of Secondary Education to declare the re-evaluation result of the Class XII English paper by June 29.

The direction by Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan came on a petition filed against the CBSE and another respondent by Saloni Bhugra and other students through counsel Baltej Singh Sidhu.

Laying down the schedule, the Bench asked the students to apply for re-evaluation by June 21 and ordered the declaration of the result by June 29 for enabling the students to appear for the Delhi University counselling the next day.

Appearing before the Bench, Sidhu had contended that the petitioners were bright students and had secured high marks in Class X. However, the marks scored in the Class XII examination in 2018 were on the lower side in English. A representation dated May 28 had already been filed in the matter.

The Bench, during the course of the hearing, was told that the CBSE had issued a notification asking the students to first apply for re-totalling, followed by a request for a photocopy and then seek a re-evaluation in case the grievance persisted.

The Bench was told that the steps were required to be followed in the order prescribed, which would postpone the declaration to July-end, though the students were to appear for counselling. The case will now come up for hearing on July 2.
