Man awarded 3-yr jail for attempt to murder

CHANDIGARH: A local court has awarded three-year imprisonment to a 53-year-old resident of Sector 25 in a case of attempt to murder.

Chandigarh, December 3

A local court has awarded three-year imprisonment to a 53-year-old resident of Sector 25 in a case of attempt to murder.

In a complaint to the police, Sanjeev (40), a resident of DBC, Sector 25, stated that on November 18, 2018, there was a marriage function in their locality and his 18-year-old son Lokender was standing in front of his house. Sunil Kumar, a neighbour, came there and started thrashing his son and also hit a rod on the boy’s head. As he rushed to the rescue of his son, Sunil hit him on his right arm. As his son was bleeding profusely, he was rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh.

Since the injuries were grievous in nature, a case under Section 307 of the IPC was registered against Sunil Kumar at the Sector 11 police station. The accused was arrested on December 2.

After hearing the arguments, the court convicted and sentenced him to undergo imprisonment for three years, as the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. — TNS
