Additional Sessions Judge Dr Amit Garg on Wednesday acquitted senior Congress leader Nirmal Singh and five other persons in an attempt to murder case.

“The accused were acquitted as the prosecution failed to prove charges against them. They were charged with Section 307 (attempt to murder) and 395 (dacoity) of the IPC and the Arms Act,” said DS Khurana and Anil Kaushik, advocates for Nirmal Singh.

The other acquitted persons were Sultan Singh, Chhota Aslam, Aslam, Sandeep and Ravi.

On the complaint by Karan Singh of the district’s Mandauli Gagad village, a case was registered against Nirmal Singh and others under Sections 148, 149, 307, 323, 395 and 506 of the IPC and the Arms Act at the Khizrabad (Pratap Nagar) police station on April 25, 2018.

In his police complaint, Karan Singh had alleged Nirmal Singh had dug pits on a government-owned non-metalled road connecting Bailgarh village to Lakkar village.

Karan Singh’s stone screening plant in Bailgarh village was connected to the road.

The former minister had, however, claimed people carried out illegal mining from his agricultural land which was also connected with the road.

“When my driver was filling earth in the pits, Nirmal Singh and his henchmen arrived at the spot and opened fire. Fortunately, we managed to escape,” the complainant had alleged.

Speaking for him and others acquitted persons, Nirmal Singh said: “We were implicated under a conspiracy. But justice has been done.”
