Faridabad, May 20

The Faridabad Municipal Corporation has announced to clean all main drains in the city spread over 40 km.

Several drains and sewer lines are lying clogged. An official said the cleaning of drains was required to be undertaken on a regular basis.

MC Commissioner Mohammed Shayin said the administration had given its nod to the cleanliness exercise and a budget of Rs 52.7 lakh had been sanctioned for the same. All major drains passing through the city would be cleaned.

He said the joint commissioners of Ballabgarh, old Faridabad and NIT zones had been directed to personally inspect the work.

According to information, the cleaning of the Gaunchi drain on the Sohna road to Gurugram Canal Siphon point, NIT would alone cost Rs 22.36 lakh.

“During monsoon months, waterlogging causes inconvenience to commuters. The cleaning of choked drains is a must before the onset of the season,” said Devender Singh Surjewala, a retired official.

On the other hand, the ongoing strike of civic employees, if not ended at the earliest, may cause hindrance in the successful completion of the drive.

The MC authorities have already removed 21 protesting employees who had been working on outsourcing basis. A case has also been registered in connection with an assault on temporary workers by a group of protesters.
