A landslide in Mani Gongma village of Dankar panchayat in the Spiti valley has reportedly damaged a large area of cultivated land near the village.
Kaza SDM Arun Sharma said he visited the spot on Saturday and saw cracks on a large portion of land adjoining the village.
He said the report of the threat to the village due to landslide had been sent to the higher authorities. Villagers have been advised to remain cautious and report any eventuality.
Kaza Zila Parishad member Padma Dorje said cracks had developed in the recent years and now the sunken area had come in close proximity to the village.
A house had been vacated. He said around 40 bigha land was destroyed due to the landslide and it had caused threat to the entire village having around 40 houses.
He said a team of geologists and natural disaster experts should visit the area soon to suggest remedial steps to protect the village.
Villagers claimed that a large portion of cultivated crops had been ruined due to the landslide.
They said the government should compensate the farmers for their loss and provide a solution to protect the village.
