After 2008, doctors’ association poll today

After seven years of delay, elections to the central executive body of the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) will be held on Thursday.

After seven years of delay, elections to the central executive body of the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) will be held on Thursday.

Paediatrician Dr Suhail Naik and anesthesiologist Dr Muhammad Yousuf Tak are contesting for the post of president while radiologist Dr Owais Dar has stood up for the general secretary’s post, DAK spokesperson Dr Mir Mushtaq said.

He said Dr Mir Waseem, Dr Sajjad Qunango, Dr Muhammad Ashraf and a candidate from the Resident Doctors Association of the Government Medical College, Srinagar, would contest for the post of vice-president.

Also, eight candidates are contesting for the post of joint secretary. Gynaecologist Dr Irshad Muntazir, general physician Dr Fayaz Bhat and dental surgeon Imtiyaz Banday are contesting for the post of spokesperson.

Dr Masood Hassan and Dr Arif Khawaja are contesting for the post of incharge of the media wing. The DAK came into existence in 2002 when Dr Khalid Parvez was elected its first president. However, the last election for a two-year term took place in 2008, Mir said.
