Woman raped on pretext of marriage

Ludhiana: The police nabbed a man who allegedly raped a girl on the pretext of marrying her. The girl met the boy on the matrimony site and they planned to get married. A resident of Bathinda said through the matrimony site, ‘Shadi.com’, she met Rajinder Singh of Hira Singh Nagar. He also introduced her to his family members with a marriage proposal. On June 18, she visited Rajinder’s house where she also met his mother. The same evening when his mother went to the market, the accused forcibly made physical relations with her. In the night as well, she was raped by the accused. Later, Rajinder refused to marry her. TNS

Man killed in road accident

Khanna: Rakesh Verma, alias Whisky Verma (55), a cloth merchant of Subhash Bazaar here, was killed in a road accident near Anandpur Sahib on Saturday. Verma, who was going to Naina Devi on foot along with other devotees, was hit by an Innova near Anandpur Sahib. He died on the spot.  Rakesh and his companions had left for Naina Devi two days ago. They resumed their journey from Anandpur Sahib in the morning. He is survived by his son and wife. OC

Two sisters go missing

Ludhiana: Two sisters went missing under mysterious conditions. Victims’ mother Gudiya of Dehlon told the police that on August 9, her daughters went to attend Khalsa School in SBS Nagar but did not return. She suspected that the duo could have been kept under illegal confinement by some unidentified persons. The police have launched a manhunt.

2 booked for drinking in car

A day after six persons were booked for resorting to the practice of “car-o-bar”, the police on Friday night booked two more persons on the same charge. The accused have been identified as Navjot Singh, a resident of Moti Nagar and Varinder Singh, a resident of Friends colony, Jassian Road. Investigation Officer ASI Madhu Bala said during a routine patrolling in Rajguru Nagar, the accused were sitting in an I20 car parked on the road in C-Block and consuming liquor. During search, the police also recovered one hookah. Tns
