Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday took charge as AICC general secretary at the party headquarters in New Delhi and will helm the party’s affairs in eastern Uttar Pradesh. PTI



New Delhi, February 6

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today assumed charge as AICC general secretary for eastern UP saying she stands by her family. The comments came as her husband Robert Vadra faced an ED probe over foreign assets.

Priyanka drove to the AICC headquarters after dropping her husband at the ED office. She first headed to meet her mother and UPA chief Sonia Gandhi at the latter's residence before returning to the party office to officially assume the new role.

As she walked towards a refurbished office at AICC, Priyanka reacted to the ED probe on her husband saying, “He is my husband. It is my family. What’s the message? I support my family.”

In her office, Priyanka met a host of workers and party leaders happily posing for the cameras as Congress insiders queued up to catch a glimpse.

Outside, posters had sprung up featuring posters of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka and Robert Vadra and the caption read: “Kattar soch nahi, yuva josh”. Other posters were captioned, “Jan-Jan ki hai yehi pukar, Rahul ji, Priyanka ji abki baar”. She will tomorrow attend a meeting of AICC general secretaries to take stock of preparations ahead of upcoming Lok Sabha poll. — TNS
