New Delhi, January 5
Leaders of the BJP’s Punjab unit today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi even as agitating farmers claimed to intensify their protest against three agricultural laws.
Talking to reporters, Punjab leaders Surjit Kumar Jyani and Harjit Singh Grewal said their meeting with the PM was about state-related issues, including the farmers’ agitation.
Jyani said, “The PM knows a lot about Punjab. During our discussion, he expressed his concern on the farmers’ issue.”
Jyani appealed to the farmers to drop their demand for repeal of the laws. He said the PM was giving priority to farmers.
Grewal, however, alleged that Maoist elements had entered the agitation and were not allowing resolution of the issue.
Though party leaders claimed that Punjab leaders had sought time from the PMO for the meeting, sources said they were summoned as Modi wanted a firsthand report on the issue.
