510 boxes of liquor seized

Amritsar, December 16

Acting on a tip-off, excise officials seized 510 boxes of liquor, smuggled from Arunachal Pradesh, from residential complex of New Model Town in Chheharta on Sunday.

When the owner of the building did not arrive, the excise team, along with police officials, broke open the lock of the house in the presence of respectable people. The team found two brands – Crazy Romeo and Party Special – from the spot.

It was manufactured and smuggled from Arunachal Pradesh, said excise officials.

It has been learnt that the liquor was to be used during panchayat elections, though the police authorities said further investigations were under way.
