Road rage claimed the life of a 38-year-old man on the stretch separating 34 and 44 this afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Parveen Yadav, a resident of Sector 37. He was working as an electronic goods distributor.

In the evening, the police arrested one of the four accused, Manveer Bains, a resident of Phase VII, Mohali, a government employee.

However, they did not book the others saying it was Bains who was driving the car.

DSP Deepak Yadav said they had impounded the vehicle. The victim was on his way home from Sector 45 in his Chevrolet Beat car around 1.30 pm. When he reached the road dividing Sectors 34 and 44, he got a call on his mobile phone. As he parked the car along the road to take the call, four persons, who were in a Skoda car, stopped next to him and passed some comments on him. This enraged Yadav and he got into an  argument with the accused. The latter then came out of their car and thrashed the victim. One of the accused held his shirt’s collar. Choked, he fell unconscious on the road. The accused then fled the spot. Later, passersby raised the alarm and the police were called. Yadav was taken to the GMCH-32, where he was declared brought dead. He is survived by his wife, two children and parents. The police have booked Bains under Section 302 (murder)of the IPC.

Though the DSP refused to confirm the accused’s department, sources said he was a serving Colonel and was on a vacation.
