Karnal, September 16

Leader of Opposition and Ellenabad MLA Abhay Singh Chautala came out in support of Punjab over the name of the international airport in Mohali.

Punjab and Haryana are in a tug-of-war over the name of the airport. The Punjab Government had reportedly named it Mohali in advertisements, following which Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar sent a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and said that it was the joint venture of both the states.

Criticising the move of Khattar, Abhay said: “The airport is the property of Punjab and they can given any name. Instead of writing to Badal, Khattar should have asked former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for unnecessarily wasting Rs 250 crore on the project of Punjab.”

He said that Hooda did it only to appease his bosses in the then Union government. Abhay today reviewed the preparedness for the ‘Sadbhawna Samman Diwas’ rally to be held here on the birth anniversary of former Deputy PM Devi Lal on September 25.

He alleged that both the BJP and the Congress were responsible for the February violence in the state and the INLD had decided to hold the ‘Sadbhawna Samman Diwas’ to spread the message of brotherhood.
