As many as 150 law graduates were conferred the bachelor’s degrees at the Fifth Annual Convocation of the Army Institute of Law at Mohali today.

Former students of BA-LLB, who belonged to 2008-2013 and 2009-2014 batches, were awarded the degrees. Senior Supreme Court lawyer and member of Rajya Sabha KTS Tulsi was the chief guest. Lt-Gen V Menon, Chief of Staff, HQ Western Command and Patron, AIL, and Ashok Aggarwal, Advocate General, Punjab, were the guests of honour.

Tulsi laid emphasis on the need for having more litigation- oriented lawyers specifically when justice had become a luxury for the underprivileged. Although he appreciated the changing trends as to law as a profession and various avenues opening up for lawyers, including the corporate and financial markets, he highlighted the need for having facilitators of justice. He urged the fledgling lawyers to strive for professional excellence only and the monetary benefits would follow on its own.

General Menon appreciated the fact that in addition to IT, India was emerging as a hub of legal outsourcing as well. He credited the institute with producing various Army officers and law officers. Aggarwal welcomed the changing trends in legal education and advocated the need for more avenues for budding lawyers.
