The Dehradun-based students activist group Making A Difference by Being the Difference (MAD) conducted a fun-filled entertainment programme for the inmates of Raphael Home today. MAD is a pocket money funded students’ activist group which comprises members in the age group of 15-23 years. MAD’s Raphael Home activity is one of the most awaited activity which receives voluminous strength of participants.

MAD volunteers conducted a drawing competition for the special kids. This was followed by a one hour session for playing different games. Keeping in mind the cold weather, the coordinator had decided to conduct the activity in the garden. The children were overjoyed with the active response from their hosts. Apart from drawing and colouring, the kids were seen playing cricket as well.

“This activity had been planned after our rigorous month-long ‘Green Vote Bank Campaign’ where we had been spreading awareness among the voting population to cast their vote to that political party/ candidate that shall work towards environmental conservation in Uttarakand. After our busy schedule, we needed a small break and hence we decided to spend our few hours with our friends here at Raphael Home. Some people might call them less fortunate, but for me they fill my day with as much contentment as any other close friend,” said Pallavi, a volunteer who had been happily enjoying the colouring session with the special children. She further said, “We had taken prior permission from the authorities to conduct a drawing and painting competition among the students. Hence, the volunteers had contributed for drawing sheets, colour pens and chocolates from their own pocket money.” MAD volunteers distributed chocolates among the inmates to conclude the activity.

Inmates of Raphael Home, who participated in the competition, praised the members of the MAD group for organising such an activity. They said such competitions should be held as it is encouraging.

The MAD has been organising such activities for long with the help of its volunteers.
