CHANDIGARH:A financier was shot at thrice, leaving him seriously injured, at the busy market of Burail in Sector 45 late tonight.

A financier was shot at thrice, leaving him seriously injured, at the busy market of Burail in Sector 45 late tonight. 

Sources said the victim, Karan, a resident of Sector 46 who has his office in Burail, was standing outside his office when three assailants arrived. Local residents said the accused, who had their faces covered, were brandishing pistols and a rifle.

The victim started running towards the local market when the accused reportedly opened fire on him, hitting the victim near the shoulder and twice on the legs. The incident took place outside a tailor’s shop. The tailor was present in the shop.

The accused then fled from the spot. 

The incident led to panic among local residents.Police teams, including those of the operation cell and the crime branch, rushed to the spot. UT SSP Eish Singhal and other senior officers also reached the spot. 

The victim, who was seriously injured, was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, from where he was referred to the PGI. 

The sources said the victim’s condition was stated to be serious. 

Eyewitnesses said people ran for cover after hearing the gunshots. The police have recorded the statement of the tailor, Mahavir Sharma, who was one of the eyewitnesses.

A heavy police force was deployed in the area following the incident. An investigation has been initiated at the Sector 34 police station.
