Foreign tourists can now visit Nubra valley

SRINAGAR: The Nubra valley in the Ladakh region has been thrown open to foreign tourists as the Centre has decided to relax the ‘Protected Area Permit’.

The Nubra valley in the Ladakh region has been thrown open to foreign tourists as the Centre has decided to relax the ‘Protected Area Permit’.

“On the intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to relax the Protected Area Permit for foreigners visiting various parts of Ladakh. Foreign tourists will now be able to visit various parts of the Nubra valley. The necessary notification in this regard has been issued by the MHA,” an official statement said.

Expressing satisfaction over the development, the Chief Minister said the government was committed to boosting the tourism infrastructure in the state and open up new areas in Kashmir and Jammu province for the tourists.

The Chief Minister has directed the Tourism Department to expedite necessary approvals and initiate work on various tourism infrastructure projects for which detailed project reports have already been submitted for approval to the Centre. She also said adequate attention be given to theupcoming places such as Yusmarg, Doodpathri, Khilanmarg, Kokernag and Tosamaidan in the Valley to attract more tourists.

The Chief Minister has also directed the Tourism Department to undertake infrastructure development for promotion of border tourism and adventure tourism in the state.
