Panipat doc dies as Heath Dept raids her clinic; kin block road

Panipat, September 19

A lady doctor died during a raid conducted by the Health Department authorities at her clinic in Samalkha, late last night.

Sources said a Health Department team comprising deputy civil surgeon Dr Sudhir Batra, Panipat naib tehsildar Rajbir and three other members raided the clinic last night on a tip off that an illegal abortion was being carried.

After talking to a woman at the clinic, the team started questioning BAMS Dr Sunita, who reportedly collapsed, said Samalkha DSP Gorakhpal Rana.

Meanwhile, Dr Sunita’s husband, Ved Parkash, reached the clinic and asked the team members the reasons behind their raid. When he noticed his wife lying on the ground, he started shouting, due to which people in the vicinity reached the spot.

A case has been registered against the Health Department team under section 302 of the IPC as the family members alleged the team members thrashed Dr Sunita, due to which she died. Reasons behind her death are yet to be determined as the investigation was underway, the police said.

Civil Surgeon Inderjeet Dhankar refused to comment over the issue. The post-mortem conducted at PGIMS, Rohtak, today, was videographed by the police.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sunita’s kin blocked the NH-1 this evening and the situation remained tense for over an hour. The family members blamed the team members responsible for the death and alleged that they thrashed the doctor due to which she died, while the team members alleged the staff members of the clinic thrashed them.
