Rohtak: Casting votes will help in strengthening democracy. Each and every voter must cast his vote in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha poll scheduled for October 21. This message was conveyed by students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) in a skit performed as part of the voter awareness programme. MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh, appreciating the initiative, exhorted voters to cast their vote on October 21. He said each voter has a duty to strengthen the democratic process by casting his/her vote. Head of the JMC department Prof Harish Kumar said that students and faculty members would be mobilising voters on MDU campus to participate in the electoral process.

2 Yamunagar pupils win heritage quiz 

Yamunanagar: Two students of Mukand Lal Public School, Yamunanagar — Abhinav Sharma and Kushagra Vashisht of Class VIII — were declared state-level winners of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage’s (INTACH) Heritage Quiz - 2019 held at Banyan Tree Public School, Chandigarh, on October 11. Principal of the school Shashi Bathla said that the quizzers are geared up for the next round at the national level. Purnima Datt, Principal Director, Heritage Education and Communication Service, INTACH, and Major RS Bhatti (retd), Convenor, INTACH, Yamunanagar, extended their greetings to the students. 

Students told about voting right

Yamunanagar: Seth Jai Parkash Polytechnic, Damla, made students aware about their right to vote. Principal of the polytechnic, Anil Budhiraja, motivated students to cast their vote for the development of the state as well as the country. “It is the biggest tool in the hands of the public to select the right candidate for the development of their areas,” said Budhiraja. He said that the students and staff members took an oath to cast their vote and also took a rally in nearby villages to make the general public aware about its importance. Dr Karanbir Singh, Dr Rajesh Kapoor, Bindu Verma, Sapna Sang, Amit Dandona, Rajeev Goel and Sandeep Sharma were also present on the occasion.

climbing championship held 

Karnal: The eighth All-India Sport Climbing Championship 2019-20 was held at Sainik School Kunjpura, Karnal. A total of 52 participants from five renowned IPSC schools from across India -– Mayo College, Ajmer; Sainik School Balachadi, Gujarat; Welhems Boys’ School, Dehradun; Emerald Heights, Indore; and Sainik School Kunjpura, Karnal; participated. The championship was divided into three categories – sub-junior, junior and senior. The participants competed in three events — lead climbing, speed climbing and bouldering. Sainik School Kunjpura lifted the overall trophy in the boys category and Emerald Heights, Indore, won the overall trophy in the girls category. Chief guest Air Marshal PS Bhangu (retd) said a lot of hard work is required to achieve victory in this unique sport. He appreciated the efforts of Col CD Chandola, Principal of the host school, and the staff for the successful conduct of the entire competition.
